The golden rule of mending

I found a tiny hole in the neckline of my favourite woolshirt.

I have mended it over and over as it is my favourite. It's so old I can't remember when I got it, but at least 15 years. And I am definitely not going to give up on it now.
After a closer look it was a lot more 🙉
It's the golden rule of mending. You will most likely find more.
There was quite much to do. But I didn't mind. It gets more special for every new mend.

I made a few roses in the back of the neck. Then darning the rest of the holes.
Actually I'm not done. I have a few holes left to darn.

Trying something new

After reading the lovely guest post from Franci, @arteobjetodiarios over at our mending community Mendingmayhem . We have a guest post almost every Friday if you are interested. It's mostly related to mending, textiles or art.
I feet very inspired to try try to make some fabric art 🎨 too.
Franci is a very talented Peruvian artist, painting with fabric. Her work is totally amazing 😍
So I went through my fabric scrap, no clue what I was going to make.
Then I found some beautiful left overs from a lovely fabric with embroidered roses. Well there wasn't a single rose left only bits and pieces.
I played around with them and found out it might make a good dog 🐶


It took me a while to get it the way I wanted it. And I rearranged it several times. And trying different backgrounds. Not really confident I could make it work.

Then pining and sewing was a bit faster 😉
Quite happy with the end result and I think I would like to do more of this.
My scrap basket sure looks like I should 👍😉

I'm also knitting on a pair of slippers for my hubby. They are going to be felted, but at the moment they look a bit like socks 🧦 for a giant 😂

A little heart

My little slow stitched heart is done.
All made from salvaged fabric and thread
I decided to add a little bit beads to it 

The tiny seed beads took for ever but I  think it was totally worth it .

I am not sure what  will do with it  yet. But rest a sure I will find good use for it . 
It's valentinesday soon too, so it might come in handy .

Or maybe I will save it for a special visible mend . 

A wood bag got a quick fix with the sewing machine. Took less than 5 minutes, probably more like 2 😉😂😂
And now it will live a while longer

Mending isn't always so complicated, but it's sure satisfying.

Crochet hacking

My latest crochet hack is finally ready.
I bought a shiny sequins sweater at our local second hand store @bazarium a while back. Thinking I would make a jacket out of it or something fun.

But it ended up being a sweater after all.
I don't like the short arms and cut them off and crochet a bit between.
I used running stitch as a base for the crochet

The neck line was removed and got a crochet one instead.
I also made it a bit longer removing the ribb and making a crochet one instead using single crochet.


 After finishing I didn't like the sequins and spent quite a lot of time removing them 🙈🙉🙊

And had to make a little seam outside the original seam as I did want the sequence fabric to show.
I spent quite a bit of time hovering up sequence too 😂
They were all over the floor.

 I'm really happy with how it turned out, and I got to use this lovely variegated yarn from my stash. 👍

As usual I had a very good helper

Travel mending kit

Lately I have been working on some travel mending kits.
I thought they would make great gifts for friends.

Small enough to don't take up to much space, but still contain what you will need to mend on the go.
Needles, pins, safety pins some buttons a little bit of sewing thread and a pair of folding scissors.

Using salvaged fabrics and buttons or left overs from my stash.
I listed a few in my shop too.

A new day, anew mend!

A new day a new mend.
Not every thing you are mending is going to be exciting but all mending is useful.
You can of course try to make your mending a little more exciting, even on something as dull as some stretch bedsheets

I found some holes in this old bedsheet
I could just have done a quick fix sewing the holes, but it was so boring.

I remembered I got some cool fabric with some tiny 🐝 bees and though they would look fun under the holes

I cut some small patches and attached them under the holes. Securing them with some safety pins. Making sure that the bee 🐝 showed under the holes.

Then I used blanket stitches around the hole making a nice frame
And running stitches through both layers of fabric. Because the bedsheet is quite worn I used a bit bigger patches than I would usually would have.

I'm also doing some meditative slow stitching. It's nice to calm down and release tension of a busy day.

Monday mending

Last Monday I did a little #mondaymendingon joining Evelyn @evelyn__wood for some Mondaymending over at Instagram
When I took my winter overall and put it on the sofa because I was going to mend a tear, her highness 👑 🐶 thought , such a lovely blanket for me 😂

She most likely think it's a bit hers too, as I let her sit inside on cold days.
The tear was mended with ladder stitch while her highness were sleeping 😴
on the overall.

 Ladder stitch is almost like a bit of magic. Even if I used white🙈 thread so you could see better, after you pull the thread it's almost invisible.

Here highness slept through the entire process then woke up to crawl under the overall 🐶
